From the video of Rabbi Jason Sobel on TBN
Video Title: “The Messiah, Son of David”
Rabbi Jason Sobel talks about the middle letter in the name David; the letter “vav.” Below is a transcription of what Rabbi Sobel spoke of in this video:
David means “Beloved.” His name is used to describe a lover, because David was a lover of GOD; and he sought that intimacy and Spiritual connection, which is embodied in his name, and especially the middle letter of his name. The letter “vav.”
The letter vav is the 6th letter of the first verse of the Hebrew scriptures. “In the beginning GOD created the heavens vav and earth.”
Vav with a numerical value of 6, is the letter that literally connects HEAVEN and Earth. David was a man who sought connection. How did he seek this connection? He sought it through the word of GOD.
Shavuot
Shavuot, the Jewish Pentecost, is a holiday that today commemorates the single most important event in Israel’s history: the giving of the Torah (the first five books in the Hebrew Bible) to Moses at Mount Sinai.
GOD gave the Torah and the 10 Commandments on the 6th day on the month of Sivan, on Pentecost, also known as “Shavuot.” David was born on Shavuot. He died on Shavuot; the day the WORD and the 10 Commandments were given. It was in his DNA to love GOD’s word and to seek that connection to the LORD.
